Visiting Ph.D. Fellowships: Resisting the Path to Genocide

Resisting the Path to Genocide, a College 2020 Research Cluster at the University of Southern California (USC), offers funding for one visiting Ph.D. candidate per semester, beginning in Spring of 2011 through Spring 2013.
The grant will be up to $4000 and shall allow the candidate to conduct research at USC for four weeks.
We are accepting international applications from Ph.D. candidates at any university, from any relevant discipline, who are working on a subject relevant to the cluster’s activities. (Information about the questions and the scope of the research cluster can be found at college.usc.edu/2020-resistance.)
An interdisciplinary committee of faculty members involved with the research cluster will select the candidate, who will be chosen on the basis of:
  • how closely the candidate’s research relates to the topic of genocide resistance, and can contribute to scholarly discussion of genocide resistance within the cluster
  • the extent to which the use of USC’s resources will enable the candidate to further his or her ongoing research, or to conduct a smaller research project during the length of his or her stay at USC

All applications for Memberships in the School of Social Science for the 2012-2013 academic year must be filed electronically through the Institute’s online application system by November 1, 2011. Applications will be accepted beginning June 1, 2011. It is expected that the selection process will be completed by February 1, 2012.
The theme for the 2012-2013 academic year will be Economics and Politics. Please click on the announcement button below for more complete information. Each year it is expected that about one-third of the selected Members will be conducting research around the theme.

Writing Samples
The application requires submission of a writing sample. A single sample is preferred, although up to three will be accepted. The School would prefer that such samples be uploaded; all uploads must be in Adobe Acrobat format. If you must send hard-copy, such as a book, please indicate your intention to do so on the application and mail it with a cover letter to: School of Social Science, Institute for Advanced Study, Einstein Drive, Princeton, NJ 08540. UNIL Master's Grants

To facilitate access to Master’s degrees by students with qualifications from foreign universities, the University of Lausanne makes available around ten Master’s grants which are awarded on a competitive basis.

Programmes concerned

Candidates must choose a Master's programme from among those offered by the UNIL, except the Master of Medicine. The grant may not be used for any complementary studies required to enroll on the Master’s degree and may not be used for EMBAs or Masters of Advanced studies.

Amount and duration of the grant

The amount of the grant is CHF 1,600.- per month from 15 September to 15 July, for a duration not exceeding the regulation minimum period of the programme (according to the programme, one-and-a-half years or two years subject to deduction for paid placements or exempt semesters, if any). Abandonment of the programme results in suspension of the grant.

Germany : Trans-European Research Training Network on Engineering and Provisioning of Service Based Cloud Applications

The FP7 Marie Curie Initial Training Network “RELATE” provides an opportunity for young researchers to study the latest technologies, platforms and tools in the area of engineering and provisioning of service-based Cloud applications. The ITN consists of seven leading European research institutes and five associated partners. The ITN will organize regular workshops and summer schools, so that the trained Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) and Experienced Researchers (ERs) can exchange research experience, insights and ideas. A total of 21 fellows, 18 ESR fellows who will register for PhD degrees and three ER fellows, will be recruited. Through an integrative and multidisciplinary research approach, RELATE will promote the advancement of the state-of-the-art in the related areas of model-driven engineering and formal methods, service-based mash-ups and application integration, dependability, performance and trust in service-based cloud applications, as well as quality management and business model innovation. Full-time research positions in the above areas are available starting from June 2011.

The University of Pavia (UNIPV), in order to promote international cooperation with the Developing Countries, offers 51 monthly instalments of 1.000 Euros each as scholarships to study at the University of Pavia or at the Institute for Advanced Study of Pavia (IUSS) during the academic year 2011-2012. Each scholarship will cover also the expenses for the Visa and for the travel to Italy and back (economy class).
